If we were to summarize what remote learning really is in high school, it’s essentially just reading course content on either pdfs or books. Moreover, more than one-third of regular course activities, such as experiments, group projects, field trips, etc., have been canceled due to the lack of resources and technology. Thus, students have lost that joy they once had when they were physically present at school. According to Study Finds, a poll completed found that 1 in 4 parents have found that their child has lost interest in school after only a year of online learning. Despite teachers trying their best to make remote learning as fun and as close to a real-life classroom, why do students still think it’s boring? There was an experiment several years ago, where a researcher is filmed using a new word or describing the location of a hidden object. A child then had to learn about what the experimenter was describing. According to the natural behaviour of the child studied after the experiment, it had been concluded that a child who sees the experimenter live is more likely to learn than one who watches the video. One explanation for this phenomenon is that videos lack the social cues of face-to-face interactions. If we were to correlate this experiment with the survey, we can understand why students are losing interest; they are not learning due to the lack of face-to-face social cues. The audience we have targeted for our product is that of teenagers. Teenagers are a demographic of the population that tend to attend school, and commonly have access to technology within certain regions. Our product will allow teenagers to be given an opportunity for an improved learning experience powered by augmented reality. Users of our product benefit by experiencing a much more interactive learning environment. They are able to learn through a method that is less textbook-centered and would be able to experience what students would otherwise be forced to read about. Additionally, our product is much more accessible to different kinds of learners. Depending on their needs and preferences, our product can tailor to given criteria to produce an ample environment primarily focused on teaching our users in an effective manner.
